Salaries for lawyers in India

I am curious about the typical salary levels today in various professions in India and have started looking out for information that I can find and hope to compile as much of information as possible on various professions. If you come across any information on salary levels (from the entry level to the top levels) in various professions like medicine, teaching, banking, insurance, retail, auditors, company secretaries, law, movie industry, journalism (print, television, radio, internet etc.), hotel industry, travel industry, non-profit sector etc., do let me know.

Here's some information on salaries for lawyers. Times of India (Bangalore Edition dated May 12, 2004) has the following advertisement by a law firm looking to hire lawyers. The law firm does not seem to have a web site, unfortunately.

Paras Kuhad & Associates, Advocates require for their offices at Delhi, Mumbai, Jaipur, Kolkata, Pune, Jodhpur, Chennai and Hyderabad:

• Junior Lawyers: Candidates should have work experience of 1-4 years.

  The annual compensation package would be Rs. 245,000/- to Rs. 315,000/-
  

• Associate Lawyers: Candidates should possess work experience of minimum 4-8 years in a reputed law firm and expertise in independent client handling and professional assignments.

  The annual compensation package would be Rs. 364,000/- to Rs. 490,000/-
  

• Working Partners: Senior profiessionals with a minimum of 10-12 years of experience in independently handling Corporate, International or IPR work in a reputed law firm are required for our Delhi and Mumbai office.

  The annual compensation package would be Rs. 1,080,000/- to Rs. 1,300,000/- (Rs. 10.8 lakhs to Rs. 13 Lakhs)

All candidates should be law graduates from a National University with a minimum of 55% marks and excellent academic record. Those with additional qualifications such as C.A. / C.S. / M.B.A / B.E. would be preferred.

The firm also pays substantial performance based monetary incentives at all levels.
